How to set up a Facebook page for your business
Marketing on social media? Here’s a step-by-step guide on setting up a Facebook Page for your business.
You may have heard that if your business doesn’t have a website, it’s almost non-existent to an increasing digital consumer market. The same can be said when it comes to a Facebook business page. That’s where you can find millions of potential customers for your business.
Setting up a Facebook page takes less than 15 minutes. Let us show you how.
1. Set up your page
You can do this by accessing your personal Facebook account and locating the “Create Page” link at the bottom left of the page, or going to facebook.com/business and clicking “Create”.
Note that you’ll need a Facebook account to do this. Some people choose to separate their personal Facebook account from their business page, however, you’ll lose out on all the contacts you can invite to like your page. More on that later.
2. Include a cover picture and a profile picture
Let this be representative of your business. You can use your company logo for the profile pic, and display your products on the cover, or do something creative but relevant.
In terms of size your profile pic needs to be 170 by 170 pixels and your cover picture should be 820 by 312 pixels for a desktop (which will display as 640 x 360 on smartphones). If you want to cover both formats go for 1200 x 675 pixels. If you have a video handy you can use that instead of a cover image - it can go for 20-90 seconds and needs to be minimum 820 by 312 pixels.

3. Fill in the important stuff
- the physical address of your business,
- web address,
- opening hours,
- contact details
- description of your business or product
and any other useful information such as product list or menu.
4. Post an update
The last thing you want is for people to go to your Facebook page and find nothing. Before you start inviting people to like your page, post something simple like a welcome or thank you message, ideally with an image so it livens up your timeline.
If you have product or service photos, create an album and post them for customers' reference.
5. Invite friends to like your page
If you created a Facebook page through your personal account, you will be prompted to invite friends to like your page. Rule of thumb – don’t spam people with requests, especially if your business is not relevant to their needs.
Now that you’re all set, you can start publishing, boosting posts, and engaging with your audience.
